A Note from the Producer:
The lyrics to the title song for my musical revue for seniors, “‘Ain’t Done Just Yet‘” came to me after losing my Chicago pizza restaurant to Covid after 27 years. I knew that just as my business hadn’t defined me, neither should my age.  I was 75 and not the slightest bit musical. I imagined four seniors to sing the song, MIMI, recently widowed, CHUCK and TILLIE, happily married for 50 years and JIMMY, a disillusioned Viet Nam war vet. I wrote songs for each of them, followed by more songs focused on aging, and its dark underside, ageism.

I realized that there wasn’t much timely entertainment available for seniors. Movies? Songs? TV shows? Forget it. One of my songs, “You’re Never Too Old for a Bucket List” sprang from the Japanese concept of Ikigai…” reason for being.”, for getting out of bed in the morning. With the emotionally heartfelt responses to our first performances, I understand that for me, Ikigai is finding my life values through entertaining and engaging as many of my fellow seniors as possible.

A mother and her teenage daughter came up to me after the show and said, with great emotion, how it had made them think about their father/grandfather who perished in Vietnam. Two ladies  (both dabbing their eyes with handkerchiefs) told me how deeply the show had affected them.

Gayle Mace (Music Director, Pianist) – Ms. Mace is the consumate pianist, embraci styles ranging from classical to ragtime to free jazz improvisation.
